Holiday Activities explained
Bread Making
A great activity for all the family: learn to make a simple bread over a charcoal fire. This takes about an hour in total and is suitable for ages 5 years and upwards. The only hard bit will be deciding what flavour yours will be: sweet or savoury? :-) All materials/tools providied.
Spoon Making
Your chance to make a utensil! Using a hot ember I will show you how to "blow" the bowl for your own spoon, then you can carve the finished shape with a knife. All materiels and tools will be provided. Suitable for ages 9 years and upwards.
Learning to Track
Something for the young nature detective: I will teach you how to start tracking our woodland animals! Suitable for ages 5 upwards (parents are welcome to come along). Please make sure you have suitable outdoor clothing & footwear - for all weather conditions please.
General Bushcraft Session for Parents & Children
This session will cover off some of the basic skills of bushcraft: shelter building, firelighting with/without matches, knife safety, awareness in nature and if time animal tracking. Please come dressed appropriately for being outdoors for the day. You will need a packed lunch. Suitable for anyone 7 years and upwards. All children must be accompanied by an adult who participates: i.e. its not a creche!
Bug Hunt
Creepy crawlies: wriggly worms, juicy slugs, amazing beetles, woodlice, sleepy millipedes, oh and don't forget ... spiders! Fantastic fun for 4 years and upwards.
Firelighting.
Your chance to light a fire with and without matches! I will show you how to do this essential skill - even in bad weather, what tinders to use, where to find them, preserve them so you can always keep warm and make tea! ;-) I will have flint and steel firelighters available for sale at these sessions: for anyone who wishes to carry on at home. |
