Holiday Activities explained

Bread Making
A great activity for all the family: learn to make a simple bread over a charcoal fire. This takes about an hour in total and is suitable for ages 5 years and upwards. The only hard bit will be deciding what flavour yours will be: sweet or savoury? :-) All materials/tools providied.

Spoon Making
Your chance to make a utensil! Using a hot ember I will show you how to "blow" the bowl for your own spoon, then you can carve the finished shape with a knife. All materiels and tools will be provided. Suitable for ages 9 years and upwards.

Learning to Track
Something for the young nature detective: I will teach you how to start tracking our woodland animals! Suitable for ages 5 upwards (parents are welcome to come along). Please make sure you have suitable outdoor clothing & footwear - for all weather conditions please.

General Bushcraft Session for Parents & Children
This session will cover off some of the basic skills of bushcraft: shelter building, firelighting with/without matches, knife safety, awareness in nature and if time animal tracking. Please come dressed appropriately for being outdoors for the day. You will need a packed lunch. Suitable for anyone 7 years and upwards. All children must be accompanied by an adult who participates: i.e. its not a creche!

Bug Hunt
Creepy crawlies: wriggly worms, juicy slugs, amazing beetles, woodlice, sleepy millipedes, oh and don't forget ... spiders! Fantastic fun for 4 years and upwards.

Your chance to light a fire with and without matches! I will show you how to do this essential skill - even in bad weather, what tinders to use, where to find them, preserve them so you can always keep warm and make tea! ;-) I will have flint and steel firelighters available for sale at these sessions: for anyone who wishes to carry on at home.

Notes & Guidelines:

  • All children under 13 must be accompanied by an appropriate adult for each session. We would respectfully like to point out that we do not operate a creche facility.
  • For all children attending the Spoon making sessions: a parent/guardian must accompany you.
  • Sessions will go ahead in all weathers - unless we have lightening/tropical storms forecast, or snowfall prevents access to the woods. Please come dressed appropriately. We will endevour to provide shelter for all sessions if required.
  • Please aim to arrive at least 20 mins before the session is due to start - just so we can check you in.
  • Payment can be made on the day with cash or cheque (made payable to Green School); however we do recommend booking a place in advance.
  • Feel free to bring your own snacks & drinks.
