Rod & ITV Loose Woman, Carol McGiffin.Rod with ITV's Carol McGiffin .

Green School takes on a "Loose Woman"

Rod has recently spent a day with Carol McGiffin, one of the presenters of ITV's Loose Women show: giving her some insights into several bushcraft skills for a programme feature.

Carol came out to Great Hampden to join Rod and spent time learning fire lighting (without matches), survival shelter building with natural materials, an introduction to tracking for animals, as well as being shown several medicinal and edible plants. This was filmed for a feature on the ITV1 Loose Women show (aired on Thurs 11th June 2009).

The filming, although serious, reflects the light-hearted nature of the show: Carol's good humour and (sometimes) cheeky nature shone throughout. She has now re-named herself "Wildcat C McG"!

GO WILD book cover

GO WILD. New publication

This is the fantastic new book by authors, and "Wild Mums" Jo Schofield and Fiona Danks. It features some great ideas for you and your kids to try out, if you want to all get into the outdoors together. Jo and Fiona may already be known to many for their previous book: Nature's Playground. Go Wild is aimed at young teenagers, and is full of common sense advice, ideas and colour photos.

Green School is proud to support the launch of this book, as it offers an accessible resource to getting outdoors. Rod has already helped Jo and Fiona with events to promote its launch in The Chilterns.

It's published by Francis Lincoln and is available in high street book shops or on-line. ISBN-10: 0711229392
